Why we use drumming?

About Drumming

The drum is an ancient tool of communication and community building. In Africa and in many other cultures around the world, before any major tribal decision is made, the community gathers together at the centre of the village to make music. This joyous making of music breaks down barriers and creates a sense of unity, thus enabling communities to become more effective in their decision-making.

Music and rhythm resonate so deeply

Music and Rhythm transcends barriers imposed by culture, language and or status. Interactive drumming leverages the power of rhythm to engage people quickly and emotionally. With Drum Cafe being the single biggest interactive drumming company in the world and world leaders in interactive drumming experiences, we have a number of teams across Canada, the United States and the world that create unparalleled corporate team building and entertainment events. We travel to each event with hundreds and sometimes thousands of drums in tow. We love what we do because at every turn, we find great meaning behind our work. We shift attitudes and effect change.

Whether you engage Drum Cafe for a corporate team building event, a social event, or for your school – your experience will ignite and inspire you and everyone who takes part.

The methods of Drum Café are effective because, like a business, music requires communication and teamwork to reach its potential. As we all drum together, every member of our audience feels like a part of something bigger — while simultaneously gaining a better understanding his or her individual role. The most significant lesson Drum Café teaches audiences is that we all succeed — or fail — together.

Fun team building with roots in South African history

Drum Cafe began in 1998 in Johannesburg, founded by Warren Lieberman in Johannesburg South Africa, as a tool for bringing together the country’s diverse and divided post-Apartheid peoples. It started when Warren Lieberman opened an actual café, where drumming workshops in a relaxed, trendy coffee shop environment, was used to encourage people to drum along with experienced and in experienced drummers to break down barriers and inspire patrons.

Brett Schlesinger partnered up with Warren and opened the famous Drum Cafe Club in Cape town which soon became an essential part of the tourist route to South Africa. After being approached by companies to create drumming sessions for within the privacy of their corporate offices, Drum Cafe quickly adapted to create an interactive business product.

The interactive drumming activities grew into something bigger — something global. Music is a universal language — there’s rhythm in all of us — that allows us to communicate, work together and experience a common sense of belonging. Through music, we learn to be receptive and creative at the same time.

Nearly two decades later, Drum Café has educated, inspired and united groups of all ages, workforces and a multitude of Fortune 500 executives through motivational techniques and interactive drumming across the world.
